The Art of War
The Art of Strategy
Timeless military strategy on winning without fighting, deception, and knowing your enemy
War is a matter of vital importance to the state — the domain of life and death, the road to survival or ruin. It must be studied with care.
Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will be victorious in every battle. Know yourself but not the enemy, and you will win some and lose some. Know neither yourself nor the enemy, and you will be in peril in every battle.
Strike where the enemy is unprepared, appear where you are not expected. These military tactics cannot be taught in advance.
All warfare is based on deception. When able to attack, seem unable. When using your forces, seem inactive. When near, seem far. When far, seem near.
Lure the enemy with offers of gain. Take advantage when they are in disarray. Strengthen your position when the enemy is well-prepared. Avoid direct confrontation when the enemy is strong.
