孟子

民為貴，社稷次之，君為輕。

The people are the most important; the state comes second; the ruler is the lightest.

人性之善也，猶水之就下也。人無有不善，水無有不下。

Human nature is good, as water flows downward. People are never bad; water never fails to flow down.

天時不如地利，地利不如人和。

Favorable timing matters less than geographical advantage; geographical advantage matters less than human unity.

得道者多助，失道者寡助。寡助之至，親戚畔之；多助之至，天下順之。

One who follows the Dao gains many allies; one who abandons it gains few. With few allies, even relatives rebel. With many allies, the world falls in line.

生於憂患而死於安樂。

Life springs from worry and hardship; death comes from comfort and ease.
